PURPOSE: A negative electrode for a lithium secondary battery with improved service life is provided by controlling the average surface roughness of a substrate to a certain range. CONSTITUTION: The negative electrode(10) for a lithium secondary battery comprises a substrate(20) having 30-4000 angstrom of average surface roughness, and a lithium layer(30) coated over the substrate. The lithium secondary battery comprises the negative electrode, and a positive electrode containing at least one positive electrode active material selected from a group consisting of a metal oxide containing lithium, chalcogenide compound containing lithium, sulfur based material and conductive polymer.
