PURPOSE: Provided is a flame resistant polyester resin, which has excellent adhesion property, flexibility and coating workability suitable to be used as an film lamination adhesive, a flat cable adhesive, and an additive for flame resistant films. CONSTITUTION: The flame resistant polyester resin is a polycondensation product of: (a) an acid component comprising 19-90 mol% of at least one aromatic dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of terephthalic acid, C1-C2 alkyl esters of terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, C1-C2 alkyl esters of isophthalic acid, phthalic acid, C1-C2 alkyl esters of phthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, naphthalic acid and derivatives thereof, 9-80 mol% of at least one C4-C12 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, and 0.5-3 mol% of tri-functional or higher dicarboxylic acid; (b) an alcohol component comprising 20-100 mol% of 2,2-dialkyl-1,3-propanediol of formula 1 and 0-80 mol% of a secondary polyhydric alcohol; and (c) hydroxy phosphynyl propanoic acid of formula 2, added in an amount of 3-20 mol% based on the acid component: wherein, R is H or a C1-C2 alkyl, R' is a C1-C4 alkyl, R1 is a C6-C18 aryl, and R2 is a C1-C4 alkylene.
