PURPOSE: A method for upgrading system software of a home appliance is provided to conveniently upgrade the system software of the home appliance by offering the system software upgrade information to a user using a set-top box if a home appliance maker transmits the upgrade information for the home appliance by using data broadcasting of a TV broadcasting station. CONSTITUTION: The user selects the system software upgrade of the home appliance from the system software upgrade information data broadcasting provided from a broadcasting station(S100). If the user selects the system software upgrade, a server of the home appliance maker downloads the system software to a digital broadcasting receiver through an Internet line(S110). After download, the system software of the home appliance is upgraded(S120).
