The phase locked loop has a given bandwidth for frequency modulation of digital input data (d k), with a device for switching the bandwidth in dependence on the transmission and reception modes. The phase-locked loop includes a programmable phase detector (11) which is switched to a lesser type in the transmission mode than in the reception mode.
