The drive coupling (5) between a plastic yarn tube (12) and the spindle (2) is provided by internal projections (7) in the tube that engage slots near the top (1) of the spindle. At least three projections (7) are spaced uniformly round the circumference on an internal plastic ring (13) and are hemispherical with a diameter of about 2 mm. The material of the ring (13) has a higher melting point than that of the tube (12) and the two components are welded together during injection molding.
