PURPOSE: A cathode ray tube is provided to achieve improved contrast by reducing the diameter of the vertical beam on the screen, while preventing an image distortion on the screen. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube comprises a bulb including a panel having a phosphor screen, and a funnel having a neck portion and which is attached to the panel; an electron gun mounted in the neck portion of the funnel so as to emit electron beams; a deflection yoke mounted in the bulb so as to deflect the electron beams emitted from the electron gun, and which includes a vertical deflection magnetic field and a horizontal deflection magnetic field; and a velocity modulator(30) including a core(31) mounted on the outer surface of the neck portion, and a velocity modulation coil(32) formed by connecting an upper coil(321) and a lower coil(322) which are wound on the top and bottom of the core.
