The side impact protector is for a car in which part of the channel bar forming the outer skin of the bodywork is a one-piece cutout of an extruded strip and having a reinforcement to damp side impact forces. The reinforcement (9) has at least three radially extruded profile arms and extends only over a limited sector of the length of the channel bar (4).
