Dental X-ray device comprises an X-ray tube and a mounting (1) for a recording medium (2) that is placed within the mouth. The mounting comprises an insertion rail (3) that is bent to a defined angle and within which the recording medium is placed, a biting down plate (4) and a permanent magnet (5). The magnet forms a measurement arrangement in conjunction with a Hall probe that is attached to the X-ray tube. The invention also relates to a corresponding dental X-ray method in which precise positioning of the X-ray tube and recording medium are achieved using the magnet and Hall probe assembly.
