There is provided a technique for effectively processing data communication by a plurality of communication protocols. In the Internet telephone device (100), when a network interface section (130) receives a packet, a protocol detection section (176) detects whether the packet is a TCP packet or a UDP packet. When it is a TCP packet, a CPU (110) as a general-purpose circuit performs packet processing by software. When it is a UDP packet, a UDP processing section (174) as a dedicated circuit performs packet processing. Audio data transmitted/received by the UDP packet is decoded by a codec processing section (140) and output to a loudspeaker (160).
