Production of a windscreen comprises forming recesses (2) in a substrate (1), and introducing functional material (4, 5) of a functional layer (3) into the recesses. The recesses have an average opening width which is smaller than the smallest light wavelength of the visible spectrum and have an average distance which is smaller than the smallest light wavelength of the visible spectrum. An Independent claim is also included for a windscreen produced by the above process.
