The invention relates to a mobile or fixed laser apparatus comprising a scanner, which is used to differentiate between and encode the graphological characteristics of a signature. The inventive apparatus is an interactive device comprising a user terminal (1) containing: a laser pen (2) which indicates the movements and the position of the signature; a laser connection (3) to a scanner (4) which reads said information by collecting data relating to the direction of the movements, the force of the stroke, the speed of the stroke, the angle and slope, hooks, the form that the pen takes, etc.; a direct line connection (5) to a data processor (6) which translates a unique digital identification code which can be compared to the information collected; a radio, cellular, microwave or direct line connection (7), depending on whether the apparatus is mobile or fixed, to a memory card (8) which stores the codes received; a direct connection (9); a communication device (10) which sends the codes to a database; a dial-up line connection (11); a remote station database (12) which stores the codes, compares the unique differentiating characteristics thereof and emits a response relating to the result of said comparison; a DSO dedicated line connection (13); and a bank credit authorisation centre (14) which is responsible for authorising or refusing credit to the user. The invention is used to collect information from a person's signature and to evaluate mathematically whether or not said signature is legitimate.
