PURPOSE: A method of making a herbal feed additive for laying hens using herbal plants such as Scutellariae radix, Rhizoma Acori Graminei, Houttuynia cordata or the like to inhibit salmonella infection during laying hens is provided. The feed additive inhibits salmonella as enteric bacteria, promotes weight gain and reduces the occurrence of disease. CONSTITUTION: A mixture of 10% by weight of Scutellariae Radix, 15% by weight of Rhizoma Acori Graminei, 10% by weight of Houttuynia cordata, 30% by weight of Carthami Flos, 10% by weight of Lycii Fructus and 10% by weight of Sinomenium acutum is ground and dried for 12hr at 70deg.C. The powder is then agitated with 15% by weight of glucose, granulated and dried. Feed for laying hens contains 0.8 to 1.2% by weight of the feed additive.
