The filter consists of a head (5) and a series of legs (7) in the form of elongated loops, e.g. of stainless steel wire or biocompatible plastic, which project from the head. The legs can be compressed so that they take up little space for implantation, and deployed radially after implanting in a blood vessel to act as a trap for blood clots. The ends of the wire or plastic loops are fixed in place inside the head, or some loops can have one end fixed in the head and the other attached to the end of the loop near the head, e.g. by welding or adhesive. The outer sections of the loops can have hooks or be treated chemically to promote their adhesion to the wall of the blood vessel. |
