PURPOSE: A method and a device for upgrading a terminal system using a smart card are provided to easily upgrade the terminal system without dissembling a terminal or replacing a CPU chip, and prevent system upgrade of an impure purpose. CONSTITUTION: A serial I/O(Input/Output) device(11) communicates data through a smart card upgrade part comprising a card holder and a smart card reader/writer. The CPU(12) controls/manages entire operation of the smart card(10). The smart card comprises a ROM(13), a RAM(14), and an EEPROM(Electronically Erasable Programmable ROM)(15) storing a program executed on the CPU and various data used of generated during operation. After upgrading the smart card, the terminal is upgraded by inserting the upgraded smart card into a card reader. The terminal comprises the card reader, the CPU, a smart card contents inquirer, a smart card contents writer, a communication connector, and a smart card driver. |
