The equipment has a body (10) which carries means (12) to support samples for analysis and means (14) to support reagents. The samples and reagents are automatically loaded (16,18) into reaction bowls (26) which are moved around a rectangular path by a toothed belt (40) and a sideways lifting mechanism. The reaction bowls (26) are fabricated as assemblies of eight bowls with flanges enabling them to slide on rails. The rectangular path taken by the reaction bowls includes means of washing the bowls (20), reading results (22), loading new bowls and ejecting old bowls (50,24).
