PURPOSE: An apparatus for embodying a legacy function in a network control instrument and a method therefor are provided to expand an application range of the network control instrument by executing specific functions of a legacy device connected through a certain wire/wireless in the corresponding network control instrument which supports a HAVI(Home Audio/Video Interoperability) function. CONSTITUTION: A legacy table module(200) stores pointer indicators, which indicate storing positions of legacy tasks corresponding to intrinsic identifiers of legacy devices by pointers, according to the intrinsic identifiers. A database(210) previously installs the legacy tasks indicated by the pointer indicators of the legacy table module(200) according to the intrinsic identifiers. A communication media management module(220) generates a bus reset according to connection with the legacy device, and outputs an interrupt signal corresponding to the bus reset. A legacy table management module(230) reads the intrinsic identifier of the currently connected legacy device and the pointer indicator indicating the storing position of the corresponding legacy function from the legacy table module(200) according to the interrupt signal outputted from the communication media management module(220). A legacy registration management module(250) reads a corresponding legacy task of the currently connected legacy device according to the intrinsic identifier and the pointer indicator read by the legacy table management module(230) from the database(210), and registers the read legacy task in a registry(240). A legacy task driving module(260) reads information registered in the registry(240) by the legacy registration management module(250) according to a driving request signal inputted from the outside, and performs the operation of the corresponding legacy according to the read result.
