A medical device sheath apparatus (10) including: a fitting (20) being suitable for receiving the medical device (50) in a self sealing manner; a first sheath (32) for receiving the medical device (50) as it passes through the fitting (20); a second sheath (34) surrounding the first sheath (32); a dilator (104) defining a treatment area, coupled to at least the second shea th (34), and being suitable for dilating a body cavity and passing therapeutic or diagnostic energy in such forms as electromagnetic radiation or acoustic energy there through; and, a window (40) operatively positioned with respect to the first sheath (32) so as to enable viewing of an area substantially adjacent the second sheath (34) upon insertion of the medical device (50) in to the apparatus (10).
