Elevator conveyor, especially a vertically arranged belt elevator has a continuous belt web (3) arranged between guide rollers with the belt equipped with a multiplicity of plastic buckets (4) for material transport. At least one temperature sensor (5) is arranged on either edge of the belt. Optimally the temperature sensors are arranged opposite to each other and there are more than two pairs of sensors. An Independent claim is made for a method for detecting the straight running of slipping of a continuous belt web in which a temperature rise, and or a threshold and or a temperature difference are monitored and compared. Movement of the belt towards the temperature sensors or even direct contact causes an increase in temperature due to friction which is detected by the sensors.
