PURPOSE: A satellite identification device of a satellite antenna and a method for identifying a satellite are provided to identify a desired satellite within a short period of time by extracting ID information assigned to each satellite. CONSTITUTION: A satellite identification device of a satellite antenna includes a decoder(510), a counter unit(520), a storage unit(530), and a satellite information signal extraction unit(540). The decoder(510) is used for decoding a first satellite signal and a second satellite signal. The counter unit(520) receives a clock signal from the decoder and generates a counting signal. The storage unit(530) stores the counting signal as memory address information of the second satellite signal. The satellite information signal extraction unit(540) detects a satellite information identification signal from the second satellite signal and extracts a satellite information signal corresponding to address information separated from address information of the detected satellite information identification signal. The satellite antenna includes a main control unit(550) to control the orientation of the satellite antenna by using the extracted satellite information signal.
