A front lens group (1) and a rear lens group (2) of about 5 mm diameter are held movably back and forth in a tubular body (5) through a front group mover (3) and a rear group mover (4), respectively. An imaging element (6), e.g. a CCD, is disposed at a specified position in the rear of the tubular body and the CCD can focus an image with a desired zoom magnification by setting the distance between each lens group and the CCD and the distance between both lens groups appropriately. More specifically, positional relation of the front lens group and the rear lens group becomes as shown on fig. 1(b) through fig. 1(d) when the zoom magnification is varied from one-magnification in the standard state as shown on fig. 1(a) to alpha-,beta-,gamma-magnification. Consequently, the zoom magnification can be switched between unit and beta by simply fixing the first lens group and allowing the rear lens group to reciprocate between (1) and (3), for example.
