METHOD FOR SEARCHING MOTION IN IMAGE COMPRESSION

PURPOSE: A method for searching motion in image compression is provided to estimate motion vector by using correlation between frames, thereby significantly reducing an amount of calculation while maintaining image compression quality and stably operating a motion vector estimation block all the time. CONSTITUTION: When compressing an image inputted from an external into frame data for transmission, each frame of the image is divided by the unit of macro block, and a macro block and a corresponding search area of a current frame are inputted(S1,S2,S3). Whether the macro block of the frame is capable of using motion vector of a previous frame by using correlation between frames is decided(S4,S5). If not, motion vector is estimated for an entire search area(S7). If the macro block is capable of using motion vector of the previous frame, motion vector is estimated only within a fixed pixel area based on the motion vector of the previous frame(S6). And motion vector of the current macro block is outputted by using the estimated motion vector(S8).
