PURPOSE: An image postprocessing method a moving picture decoding system is provided to adaptively apply a postprocessing method suitably for characteristics of the image when decoding the received image, thereby providing moving picture with high definition quality. CONSTITUTION: Only for a DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) block boundary area of an inputted image, whether or not the boundary area is an edge area is decided. If the boundary area is not an edge area, pixels adjacent to the boundary area are smoothing-processed, wherein the pixels adjacent to the boundary area are respective two pixels in each of both directions from the DCT block boundary. And when performing smoothing for the pixels adjacent to the boundary area, the two pixels right adjacent to the DCT block boundary are smoothing-processed with relatively higher strength than the other two pixels adjacent thereto. |
