PURPOSE: A capacity-variable expansion valve for an air conditioner is provided to control the flow rate of refrigerant bidirectionally, and control the capacity in a wide range. CONSTITUTION: A capacity-variable expansion valve for an air conditioner includes a main refrigerant path, a short tube body(10), and first and second coupling elements(20,30). The main refrigerant path(10a) is penetrated at both ends in the lengthwise direction in the short tube body. The short tube body has a plurality of bypass refrigerant paths(10b) perpendicular to the main refrigerant path. The first coupling element is coupled with an evaporator part pipe(40) at an end and a condenser part pipe(50) at the other end. The short tube body slides and reciprocates in the first coupling element elastically by a predetermined length according to the pressure of the refrigerant. The second coupling element is screw-coupled with the first coupling element in the condenser part pipe, thereby fixing the condenser part pipe and the first coupling element. A spring element(60) is mounted between the first coupling element and the short tube body.
