PURPOSE: A moving picture reproducing system and method are provided to allow a user to easily recognize the outline of a moving picture. CONSTITUTION: A moving picture reproducing system includes a display device(17). The display device displays index images extracted from a moving picture in a display area at a specific interval. The number of segmenting the display area depends on the number of index images. The moving picture is reproduced from a scene corresponding to a selected index image. The display device simultaneously displays all the index images. An interval of extracting a fame image depends on the number of index images. The display device simultaneously displays the index images and moving picture.
