A convex adapter comprises an adapter ring (20) formed of a soft shape-recoverable skin barrier material. The barrier material comprises a continuous phase of an elastomeric adhesive and a discontinuous phase of moisture-absorbing and swellable hydrocolloid particles. A convex adapter comprises: (1) an adapter ring formed of a soft shape-recoverable skin barrier material having a convex bodyside surface, a planar opposite surface, and a centrally-located stoma-receiving opening (21); (2) a removable release sheet (25) covering the opposite surface; and (3) a non-stretchable and removable cover film (24) covering the convex surface. The barrier material comprises a continuous phase of an elastomeric adhesive and a discontinuous phase of moisture-absorbing and swellable hydrocolloid particles. The removable cover film is transparent for revealing the adapter ring, and having a marginal portion extending outwardly beyond the periphery of the adapter ring.
