PURPOSE: A refrigerant collecting device for an air conditioner and a method for controlling the same are provided to test the leakage of refrigerant after the installation of the air conditioner, and safely and conveniently collect the refrigerant. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerant collecting device for an air conditioner includes a compressor(51), a 5-way valve(53), an outdoor heat exchanger(55), and an electronic valve(57). The 5-way valve is connected to a discharge part of the compressor for changing flow channels according to heating or cooling or refrigerant collecting operation. The outdoor heat exchanger is supplied with the refrigerant via the 5-way valve. The electronic valve is connected to an outlet of the outdoor heat exchanger for controlling an opening degree thereof.
