Screening (M1) compounds or their salts which inhibit the activity of a protein containing an amino acid sequence identical or substantially similar to that of (S1) of 917 amino acids, its partial peptide or their salt comprising using them, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a kit (I) for screening compounds or their salts inhibiting the activity of a protein containing an amino acid sequence identical or substantially similar to that of (I) of 917 amino acids, its partial peptide or their salt containing them; (2) compounds (II) or their salts screened by (M1); (3) drugs (III) containing (II); (4) screening (M2) compounds or their salts inhibiting the expression of the protein-encoded gene by using a polynucleotide containing a polynucleotide that encodes the protein or its partial peptide; (5) a kit (IV) for such drug screening that contains the polynucleotide; (6) expression inhibitors (V) screened by (M2); (7) drugs (VI) containing (V); (8) an antisense polynucleotide (VII) containing a base sequence complementary or substantially complementary with the base sequence of a DNA that encodes the protein or its partial peptide; or a part of is; (9) drugs (VIII) containing (VII); (10) an antibody (IX) for the protein or its partial peptide; (11) quantitating (M3) the protein or its partial peptide using (IX); (12) drugs, or diagnostics (X), containing (IX); (13) diagnosis (M4) of respiratory diseases by using the quantitation method; (14) screening (M5) compounds or their salts inhibiting the production of a protein containing an amino acid sequence identical or substantially similar to that of (S1) of 917 amino acids, its partial peptide or their salt is by using the antibody; (15) a kit (XI) for screening compounds or their salts inhibiting the production of a protein containing an amino acid sequence identical or substantially similar to that of (S1) of 917 amino acids, its partial peptide or their salt containing the antibody; (16) protein-production inhibitors (XII) screened by (M5); (17) drugs (XIII) containing (XII); (18) diagnostics (XIV) containing a DNA encoding the protein with a sequence of (I), or its partial peptide; (19) preventives (XV) or remedies for respiratory diseases containing inhibitors of the protein or its partial peptide, expression inhibitors or inhibitors of the protein production; (20) preventing (M6) or treating respiratory diseases by administering an effective dose of any of the specified inhibitors, antisense polynucleotide or antibody; and (21) producing (M7) preventives or remedies for respiratory diseases using (XII), (VII) and (IX).
