SINGLE HANDEDLY RELEASABLE NEEDLE SHIELD

A shieldable needle assembly is provided for a needle. The assembly includes a needle shield hingedly mounted to a location proximally of the needle. The shield can be rotated into and out of a shielding position relative to the needle. The assembly further includes an actuator extending from a suppo rt near the proximal end of the needle cannula. The actuator can be deflected relative to the needle cannula and into engagement with the needle shield fo r hingedly rotating the needle shield away from the needle cannula.
