A building monitoring and control system is disclosed that includes a bi-directional radio link between master and remote units, wherein the remote units adjust transmission power to a level adequate for communication but not so high as to waste power and unnecessarily decrease battery life. In one embodiment, the master unit measures a received signal strength from the remote units and uses that measure to provide feedback to the remote units as to whether their transmissions are too strong, too weak, or within an acceptable range. In another embodiment, the remote units receive an analog measure of the master unit received signal strength and use that measure as an indication of whether to increase or decrease the transmission strength. In yet another embodiment, the lack of an acknowledgement from the master is used as an indication that the remote signal is not strong enough. |
