The device has an energy source to supply electrical energy to an electrode and crowns with contact plates (6,12) to determine circular areas (3a, 3b) contacting electrode periphery based on a longitudinal direction of the electrode. The areas have different electrical or thermal coupling conditions. Crown supports (7,13) press the respective plates against the periphery and conduits (31,32) supply energy to the plates.
