The cotyloid implant consists of a basically hemispherical shell designed to be fixed in the cotyloid cavity of the patient's pelvis and receive a sliding insert for the spherical head of a femoral prosthesis. The equatorial edge (17) of the shell has a projecting rim (16) covering at least half its circumference and shaped to form a circular or cylindrical opening for the insert extending in a plane that is not parallel to the equatorial plane (P).
