PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground structure and its construction method attaining reduction in construction cost, labor saving in construction and the shortening of a construction period. SOLUTION: This underground structure comprises juxtaposed shield holes 1, 1 and widened parts 2, 2 formed in and on the facing side. Steel shell segments 1a are installed at the natural ground of the shield holes 1, 1, and jacking pipes 3, 4 are installed on the upper side and lower side between the shield holes 1, 1 to be closed in an approximately elliptic cross section so that external forces applied to the steel shell segments 1a and jacking pipes 3, 4 are resisted mainly by axial forces.
