<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of forming microporous carbon from a porous solid polymer. <P>SOLUTION: Organic fluid (18) is partially infiltrated into the interconnected apertures of a ceramic preform (16) and the organic fluid on the aperture surfaces of the preform are converted to the carbon films (34), and silicon is injected into the apertures possessing the carbon films of the preform (38).
