PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour correcting device which realizes sharper video by extracting a high frequency component of a digital video signal subjected to an A/D conversion with a high pass filter to generate a contour correction signal and performing contour correction by adding the generated correction signal to the original video signal. SOLUTION: The contour correction circuit is provided with a correction period decision circuit. In order to add the contour correction signal to the H-th horizontal line to perform contour correction, vertical lines included in the video signal are detected, and high quality video is realized by adding the contour correction signal only to the part and performing contour correction, requiring that the contour correction signal having a high frequency component that is not smaller than a set value exists on the (H-1)-th line of the previous horizontal line within a set range centering on the H-th contour correction signal.
