PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inserting a necessary minimum number of repeaters to proper positions by computer processing. SOLUTION: This repeater insertion method comprises a classification step for classifying a plurality of cells according to the distance between cells, based on the physical arrangement information of a plurality of cells in the layout of a semiconductor chip, to generate one or more groups; and a repeater insertion step for determining the necessary number of repeaters and the physical arrangement positions of the repeaters for each group.
