PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefin polymer by use of an olefin polymerization catalyst which comprises a metallocene compound and can produce a propylene/ethylene copolymer having an enough high molecular weight even in a case of high ethylene unit content. SOLUTION: The method for producing an olefin polymer uses an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising an organoaluminum compound and a support type catalyst component which is prepared by using a metallocene compound containing at least one substituent, an activating compound, a fine particle carrier whose average particle diameter is 5-45μm and, if desired, an organoaluminum compound.
