PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new thienylarylacetylene compound which can simply be synthesized and has a high birefringence, and to provide a conductive material, an optical element material, an optical isomer, a phase contrast plate and a phase contrast film all of which can be applied to optoelectronic field, and the like, and are obtained by using the thienylarylacetylene compound.
