PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal bearing, wherein thermal expansion at the connection section between a tapered section and a land section is restrained, and which can cause the space between the tapered section and a supported part to be enlarged, for increasing the amount of lubricant flowing into the part, and can enhance the load capacity; and furthermore, the cooling effect of the land section is enhanced, by having the lubricant hit a step section. SOLUTION: A load operating on a rotary shaft is supported by a thrust bearing via a thrust collar being provided at a rotary shaft. A plurality of pads 2 are provided along the circumferential direction in the body of the thrust bearing. Then, each pad 2 comprises the land section 3 facing the thrust collar; the step section 4 perpendicular to the land section 3; and the tapered section 5 connected to the step section 4. With such a constitution, load that a bearing can safely support increases especially at high surface pressure at a high speed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
