An apparatus and method for providing additional information regarding a particular object in a digital broadcast image are provided. When a user designates an object, the object is extracted from unit images constituting a motion image signal. A moving position of the object is tracked over a stream of unit images. Additional information regarding the object is inserted in a range of unit images over which the object has been tracked so that the additional information regarding the object can be provided. Since a particular object in a motion image is extracted, recognized, and tracked, additional information regarding only the particular object can be provided. In addition, the apparatus and method can be widely used for systems that provide detailed information regarding goods online, T-commerce systems, etc.
