A method for detecting the effect of a treatment agent on the cellular signaling network mediated through phosphorylation events, such method comprising the following steps: preparing a native cellular lysate before and after treatment with a candidate drug and before and after treatment with a phosphatase inhibitor, wherein said lysate retains at least one protein-protein complex; and, characterizing the number and composition of heterotypic phospho-protein complexes that contain at least two different types of different phospho-amino acids.
