The entire wall comprises a single panel of connected sections molded as a sandwich structure in one molding operation. When the panel sections are folded together a single unit is created and during unfolding they form a self-supporting wave shape. Folding is effected by grooves(14,15,16) which form hinges or joints between each section. Alternate grooves are on opposite sides of the panel. Grooves are created by compressing together facing layers(12,13) between core sections(11). Maximum breadth and height are limited only by manufacturing press size. Wall thickness is 5-30 mm. The wall may be transparent or colored on one or both sides. Alternatively various surface designs such as graining, grooves, textures, printing, cut-outs or other features may be incorporated. Walls may have open or closed edges. When opened out adjacent wall sections form a single flat surface. Soft tubing may be welded on to wall edges to form a protector. The latter may include a magnetic strip which is welded or bonded on. Wall panels may be rectangular, triangular or have a jagged profile on one side. The wall may be made in a single thermoplastic material or a thermoplastic core and facing layers of a different material. Alternatively several different thermoplastic materials may be used with or without other materials. Transparent or colored plastic can be used on one or both sides and may include various patterns or designs. Facing layers can be foams, films or sheets which enclose a core or spacers with either a box, wave, hat, tube, trapezium, square or similar shape cross-section. An Independent claim is also included for a process for manufacturing the folding wall in which facing layers and a core or spacer are combined and shaped in a single sintering and/or hot pressing or hot and cold pressing process which permits inclusion of all wall features, e.g. grooves, cut-outs or raised areas. |
