PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head in which recording bleeding can be avoided by suppressing side fringing even in a narrow track area. SOLUTION: Notched parts 411, 412 are formed so that they are separated from each other at interval PW1 and a first pole piece 413 is demarcated at the interval PW1. A second magnetic film 45 has a second pole piece 451. The first pole piece 413 satisfies equations of TH1≥4WG and ND1≥4WG in relation among a height TH1 on the basis of the opposed surface of a medium, a depth ND1 on the basis of one surface of a first magnetic film 41 and the film thickness WG of a gap film 42.
