PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound capable of being produced by an extremely simple method, having a high safety on being used for the skin, excellent in convenience for the preparation of a cosmetic, or the like, and also having an extremely high decolorizing activity against a brown pigment. SOLUTION: The brown pigment-decolorizing substance is derived from anα-ionone cyclic compound, or the like, by irradiating ultraviolet light to the compound. Since the substance has a high brown pigment-decolorizing activity, and it is easily prepared as a composition of such as an external agent, it is possible to make it a constituting component of a beautifully whitening cosmetic, or the like, capable of reducing/dissolving blotches, freckles, or the like.
