PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high-speed passenger conveyor, and to save the power and the facility thereof without increasing the size of appliances and the power facility. SOLUTION: The total number of passengers in a passenger conveyor is calculated based on the count history of an entry detection sensor 6 disposed in a vicinity of an entrance 5a, and if the passenger number brings the overload to an AC motor 4 of a driving device, the drive frequency of the AC motor 4 is changed, and the operational speed is reduced.
