PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for certainly protecting a mold in a molding machine, wherein a process for closing a mold in different states is present, like a slide machine or rotary machine of a two-material and two-color molding machine or vertical injection molding machine having a mold rotating function. SOLUTION: This mold protecting method is adapted to the molding machine wherein the process for closing the mold in different states is present when the mold is rotated forwardly and reversedly by providing the mold rotating function. A mold protecting section is set so that torque is throttled during the certain setting range of the mold closing process to perform mold closing operation. One or more kinds of the mold protecting sections are provided corresponding to the type of the mold, and a value for forward rotation and a value for reverse rotation are also prepared during a period from the completion of mold closing under the previous condition to the beginning of next mold closing, the value of the mold protecting section for forwardly rotating the mold concerned is changed over to the value of the mold protecting section for reversedly rotating it.
