<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective device for a pedestrian whereby an exclusive means for lifting a hood can be dispensed with. <P>SOLUTION: An inflator 13 is actuated by a collision signal of the pedestrian, and an airbag 12 starts expansion. A lid 15 is separated from a retainer 11 by an expansion pressure of the airbag 12, and is pushed to an extended part 6a, and a rear end side of the hood 2 is pushed up by the airbag 12. Thus, a rear part of the hood 2 is opened.
