PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for using a detailed edit schedule describing program segments and allowing a user to record a program segment of interest to the user. SOLUTION: The system and method provides the detailed edit schedule for a user's recording device, such as a digital video recorder. The detailed edit schedule can be provided over a network 100 by a user's DVR service provider 110, or can be provided from a third party. The detailed edit schedule describes various segments that occur within the program. The program segment can also include commercials matching the user's interest.
