PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the generation of a control signal for signal equalization, using information provided by a forward error correction. SOLUTION: A method for equalizing transmitted bitstream signals using a feed-forward equalizer means is presented. The signals are resolved into at least two components. Each component is multiplied by an equalization parameter so as to form an equalized component. The equalized component is then superposed to form an equalized signal. A conditional bit error rate is determined by counting a transmission bit having an error depending on a preceding bit and a succeeding bit. The equalization parameter is adjusted depending on the determined conditional bit error rate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
