PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the vibration generated in normal operation, even when an outer part of a journal bearing is worn out by the vibration of a shaft in starting, and to reduce the frequency of replacing the journal bearing. SOLUTION: This hydrostatic bearing comprises the journal bearing 2 supporting a rotating shaft 7, a plurality of gas discharge holes 10 formed on an inner peripheral face 4 of the journal bearing 2 in a state that at least two or more are symmetrically formed in the width direction 80 of the journal bearing 2, and a gas supplying means for supplying a gas 5 between the inner peripheral face 4 of the journal bearing 2 and an outer peripheral face of the shaft 7 from the discharge holes 10. The positions of the discharge holes 10 in the width direction 80 of the journal bearing are determined at an inner side with respect to a contact worn-out area 8 outside of the journal bearing 2, caused by the contact of the shaft 7 and the journal bearing 2 by the vibration of the shaft 7, and a pressure of the gas 5 is increased in comparison with a case when the discharge holes 10 are formed at an outer side in the width direction of the journal bearing 2.
