PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating contaminated soil from which heavy metals can be recovered simply, inexpensively, and at a low load. SOLUTION: A subterranean continuous wall 23 of an improving material 22 is formed around the contaminated soil 21 to surround the contaminated soil. The underground of the contaminated soil is dug with a digging machine to form a vertical hole, and a discharge liquid is discharged into the vertical hole so that heavy metals contained in the contaminated soil are eluted into the discharge liquid. The discharge liquid is recovered on the ground. The improving material is formed by injecting a solidifying liquid into the vertical hole and mixing/agitating the solidifying liquid with earth and sand in the vertical hole. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
